Saheli works as a support-system in bringing sustainable change in the lives of underprivileged children and women with an approach to individual development. Saheli provides the appropriate encouragement and helps uplift underprivileged children and women through relevant education and healthcare. Saheli believes that education is both the means as well as the end to a better life: the means because it empowers an individual to earn one’s livelihood and the end because it increases one's awareness on a range of issues - from healthcare to appropriate social behavior to understanding one's rights - and in the process, help him/her evolve as a better citizen. Education is also the most effective tool which helps children build a strong foundation; enabling them to free themselves from the vicious cycle of ignorance, poverty, and disease. Saheli was also propelled to step in and help the neglected elderly, due to today’s rapid urbanization, the traditional value-system of our people has shifted their socio-economic priorities. The elderly, who have provided their services and support to the society, feel unloved and neglected at this phase of their lives. Their deteriorating physical strength and other geriatric illnesses add to their difficulties. Their often-poor financial condition, lack of affordable health care and the general neglect by society makes Saheli work for the cause and care of disadvantaged older persons and to improve their quality of life. Saheli envisions a society where elderly have the right to an active, healthy and a dignified life. Saheli also helps the handicapped by providing them aid through means of free medical care, emotional support and with an appropriate mobility aid, thus helping them feel no different from the normal crowd and make achievements just like them, in many cases better than them. In our continuing fight against isolation and neglect of children, deprived women, neglected elders, though we have made significant strides, we are still just a drop in the ocean.
